Training
We make our job look easy, but that is because of the extensive training given to everyone at McDonald’s. The number of training days which our people receive is above the national average.
Our training goes way beyond how to cook a hamburger or maintain health and safety and food safety standards. We help our staff to develop transferable skills such as customer service, teamwork, communication and leadership. In fact, our part-time people tell us that access to management training is one of the things they value most about working in McDonald’s.
Our internal training programmes
We train about 1,000 people in Ireland every year. Every new crew member gets about five days training per year and managers get 12 days per year. This is well over what most other employers in Ireland offer their staff.
Our training programmes help staff do their jobs better but they also give ambitious employees a chance to work their way up, through a series of merit-based promotions. It is a system that has worked out pretty well for everyone. At least half of all of our senior managers started their careers as crew. Our management training programmes take place in our Head Office training school in Dublin.
Food safety & hygiene training
Our employees begin their training in food safety and hygiene from the first day they start work in our restaurants.
We have an in-house trainer who is registered to deliver the Environmental Health Officers Association Primary Course in Food Hygiene to all of our managers and crew.
This is an officially recognised course which equips our managers to ensure that our customers can continue to have confidence in the quality of the food that we serve to them.
