Tan Qing Jian
My name is Tan and I graduated from Anshan Normal College in 2000 in China. After that, I moved to Dublin, where I completed my MA in Addiction Studies (a branch of psychoanalysis).
During this time, I started out as a part time Crew Member at McDonald’s Stillorgan in 2000. Since then, the training I received from McDonald's has helped me develop my leadership and communications skills - as well as boosting my confidence.
What I enjoy most about my job is that each day can be very different. I’m currently the store manager at Kylemore Road, and I run a team of 85 staff. The hours can be quite long, but I enjoy it and like the mix of activities, from dealing with customers to running the store.
A typical day for me not only involves managing the managers and crew to deliver outstanding quality, service and cleanliness, but also lots of behind the scenes activities, such as organising crew social events.
Today, a large part of my role is making sure that the managers and crew in Kylemore Road receive the training and development they need and, of course, have a fun environment to work in.
I really enjoy working in McDonald’s and I feel that to achieve future success here, I need to deepen my understanding of marketing and public relations. So I’m taking a part-time MBA course in Griffith College this year.
